Commander of the Imperial Guard 97th Battalion detachment on Sepheris Secundus to put down uprising. In a matter of hours, his troops quickly handled the rebels and they were getting ready to ship out again. However, he noticed some loose sheaf of papers on a rebel and found them to describe unspeakable acts. Recognizing them as prescribed literature, he locked them away and ordered his troops into the mine to make sure double sure this problem was fixed and all rebels hunted down.
Sargent Raynard, sure enough, found more rebels down there, which he quickly had on the run. However, deep in the mine in an area known as The Shatters his men ran into deadly opposition they could not explain. Twisted mutations, daemonic entities and worse, they said. Many of his soldiers were dragged off into the darkness. The force was ordered to leave, the mine was sealed and quarantined and the Inquisition sent for.
When Commissar Nihilius met the Acolytes, he felt their number & apparent newness to the job meant that the Inquisition hadn’t taken his report/request seriously. However, after revealing his thoughts he “buttoned it up” and was all business. He knew the economic stakes were high for any delay.
