Using Investigation Skills

Using Investigation Skills (DH pg 186)

  • All Investigation Tests require a character to have access to an Investigation skill.
  • The Difficulty of the Test depends on it complexity (DH pg 186), which also determines the base time it should take to uncover the information sought.
  • A failed test indicates no progress gained; roll 1d10 to see how many hours elapse before the character can roll another Investigation Test.
  • A success on the Test allows you to roll 1d10 and add the appropriate Characteristic Bonus and subtract this value in hours from the time it takes to uncover the information sought.
    • Subtract two more hours from the time needed for every Degree of Success.
  • Failing by three or more degrees indicates a setback, adding 1d10 hours to the total time required.
  • Failing by five or more degrees means that the investigation comes to a complete halt and that the information’s complexity increases by two steps.
  • Once you get to zero or less, you get the available information on the subject you’re investigating.
